Psyllium Husk

Psyllium Husk

Psyllium husk is a dietary fiber that increases the bulk of your stool to allow for better movement through the intestinal tract. Without enough fiber in your diet, you may experience irregularity, constipation, and sluggishness. Insufficient fiber can also increase your risk of colon cancer, as well as other serious health issues. Adequate fiber intake has been shown to reduce the incidence of heart disease, lower cholesterol, regulate blood pressure and glucose levels, and decrease inflammation.

How It Works

Dietary fiber is an essential part of a healthy diet and lifestyle. Its health benefits include improved gut health, protection against heart disease, reduced diabetes risk, and weight management. When on any diet, it is important to take a fiber supplement to ensure you are consuming the recommended 25-30 grams of dietary fiber for optimal digestive health. Most people don’t get enough fiber from their diet alone. Research estimates that only 5% of the population in the U.S. meet the recommended required intake.

Fiber is mostly found in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes. Taking Options Psyllium Husk is crucial for the first phase of the Options Diet System. Due to the low carbohydrate intake on phase one of Options Diet System, it is important to supplement with the Options Psyllium Husk to create bulk to have regular bowel movements. Psyllium husk is also a prebiotic, which is a substance needed for healthy colonies of probiotics (beneficial bacteria) to grow in the gut and is essential for healthy immune function. Without prebiotics, you won’t get all the benefits from taking probiotics.

How It’s Used

Options Psyllium Husk is a supplement that does not require a prescription. You should take two to six capsules daily with a full glass of water. If adding fiber is new to you, it’s important to start with the lowest dose and then slowly increase from there. Make sure you are drinking two to three liters of water daily when adding fiber to your diet.

Do not take psyllium husk with other medications as it may reduce or delay your body’s absorption of certain medications. It’s best to take your medications at least one hour before taking fiber, or two to four hours after taking fiber.

If you experience any constipation while taking psyllium husk, talk to your Options Weight Loss Counselor or Medical Provider regarding solutions to prevent constipation in the future and how to add in Options Herbal Lax for immediate relief.
